Furnace Flue Cleaning & Inspection
National Chimney Service provides complete furnace flue cleaning and inspections for our customers throughout Fairfield County CT and Morris County NJ. Why is this work important?
Particulate Buildup in Furnace Flues
Furnaces don’t send into their flues the large amount of combustion byproducts that wood fireplaces do, but they do add particulate matter that over time can build up to the point that drafting is impeded.
The size of your furnace flue (i.e., its inner capacity) was designed specifically to vent your particular furnace model and output. Any time the capacity of the furnace flue is decreased, proper venting won’t be able to happen, which can lead to the backup of dangerous gases, especially carbon monoxide. It’s now widely known that carbon monoxide is extremely hazardous to humans and animals who inhale a sufficient amount of it.
Because carbon monoxide is both invisible and odorless, the only way to know if it’s in the air of your home is with a CO monitor, which you definitely should have. Even then, it’s better not to take chances and rely on a device to tell you that your air is unhealthy.
The best solution is to have our trained crews inspect and clean your furnace flue once a year.
Furnace Flue Inspections
We’re known for our chimney flue inspections throughout Morris and Fairfield counties. But many folks aren’t aware that we’re also experts in servicing their furnace flues.
Regular flue inspections are critical to keeping your furnace running and venting in a way that’s safe and efficient. Inspections will spot the earliest signs of wear, damage and malfunction, allowing you to get the needed repairs done quickly before you’re looking at an expensive and complicated repair project.
Furnaces are one of those household appliances that often are “out of sight, out of mind.” You don’t see your furnace on a regular basis – and even if you did, if you’re not specifically trained in the operation and repair of these appliances, you wouldn’t know what you’re looking at or what to look for.
When Do You Need a Furnace Flue Inspection?
As noted, an annual inspection is a smart maintenance move. You also should arrange to have your furnace flue inspected and possibly cleaned when:
- The furnace is in a home you’re considering buying and occupying
- You’re making a change to the furnace’s fuel type, such as from oil to gas
- You’ve noticed odd noises, low performance or visible signs of damage or leaks with your furnace
