Smoktite™ Smoke Chamber Restoration

A Safer, More Cost-Effective, and Heat-Resistant Smoke Chamber Restoration System

National Chimney Cleaners is pleased to introduce Smoktite™, a safer, more effective, and exceptionally durable solution to smooth and seal your smoke chamber. Smoothing and resealing your smoke chamber increases not only fireplace safety and heating efficiency but also prolongs the useful life of your chimney and fireplace.

What is the Smoke Chamber?

The smoke chamber is the narrow passageway just above the fireplace damper in the flue. Its narrow upside-down funnel design helps push the smoke and fumes up the flue to exit your home.

However, as the masonry inside the smoke chamber deteriorates due to age, moisture, spalling, and heat, the masonry surface can become rough due to cracking, crumbling, and other damages. This results in additional soot, moisture, and creosote buildup that increases fire risk and exposure to carbon monoxide fumes. It also reduces your fireplace’s heating efficiency and decreases chimney repairs.

Problems with Corbelled Brick

Many older homes in New Jersey and Connecticut have smoke chambers constructed with an outdated technique known as corbelling. The corbelled brick’s stair-step design creates jagged edges or rough points in the smoke chamber. Instead of exiting the chimney, more soot creosote, moisture, and combustion gases get trapped in these crevices, accelerating masonry deterioration.

Smoke Chamber Parging

Since a rough, cracking, or corbelled smoke chamber poses a significant fire and safety hazard, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) states smoke chambers shall be parged smooth with an insulating mortar refractory material. A smooth and durable smoke chamber surface insulates the masonry from the intense fireplace heat and improves airflow so the fumes can safely evacuate your home more efficiently.

Does my Smoke Chamber Need Parging?

You will need a chimney inspection to check the smoke chamber's condition to determine if it needs parging. When our professional chimney sweep performs a chimney inspection, your smoke chamber is checked to determine if parging is necessary. If smoke chamber parging is required, our chimney sweep will apply SmokTite™. This highly effective insulative refractory material will fill in the cracks, gaps, and jagged edges to create a smooth, durable, and heat-resistant surface.

How SmokTite™ Works

SmokTite™ is a spray-on highly insulative ceramic coating that our professional chimney sweep applies to smooth, seal, and insulate your smoke chamber. Its heat-resistance properties can withstand temperatures of up to 2,291°F. The durable ceramic surface also resists moisture, vapors, and acids.

SmokTite Benefits

Due to its proximity to the firebox, the smoke chamber is a common source of chimney fires from the creosote that builds up around the narrow smoke chamber's passageway's edges, cracks, and crevices. SmokTite is a more straightforward, faster, and cost-effective way to repair and parge smoke chambers.

  • Reduces risk of fire and carbon monoxide exposure
  • Improves airflow in the chimney
  • Repairs masonry damage without removing the damper assembly and brickwork
  • Lifetime Warranty
